Description

It's an app for :iconpkmn-crossing:! Apologies for the art, as always -- visual art is not my thing, so I just hope it's acceptable. I also hope it's obvious she's supposed to be an anthro and not a gijinka, given how fine the line is for Hariyama. Anyway...

NAME: Nobusaki Kiyoko
SPECIES: #297 Hariyama
GENDER: Female
BIRTHDAY: July 5th
ZODIAC: Cancer
AGE: 28
NATURE: Bold
CHARACTERISTIC: Good perseverance
CATCHPHRASE: "... hwah!"
JOB: Physician, specializing in emergency medicine; also certified as an EMT
HOME TOWN: Rustboro City
HISTORY: Kiyoko was born into a busy, energetic family of Fighting-types in Rustboro City, Hoenn. Her father, a Hitmontop sporting-good salesman, traveled frequently on business, so for the most part the house was left to Kiyoko, her three younger brothers, and their Hariyama gym-teacher mother. Mrs. Nobusaki was a diligent parent and did what she could to keep order, but Kiyoko and her brothers were rambunctious, and they found more than their fair share of trouble -- and injuries. Most of those were the usual childhood cuts and bruises, but when Kiyoko was eight, she shattered her right forearm falling out of a tree fort. Her fracture required several months and some surgery to heal, a process that saw her in and out of the hospital; to her (and her mother's) surprise, though, Kiyoko found the hospital environment fascinating, especially since her orthopedic surgeon explained her treatment to her every step of the way. As she left the hospital after her last appointment, Kiyoko swore to herself she'd return as a doctor one day.

It was an ambitious goal, but Kiyoko was just as stubborn as she was intelligent, and she worked as hard as she played. She was at the top of her class throughout school, breezed through college, and finally found herself at Rustboro University's medical school. While Kiyoko considered a variety of different specialties, she drifted towards emergency medicine for the excitement of fast-paced, high-pressure work. It was a good fit, and by 25 Kiyoko was a newly-evolved Hariyama beginning her residency. Really, what could go wrong?

Inevitably, things started going wrong. By her second year of residency, the long hours and stress were wearing through even Kiyoko's naturally-high energy reserves, and her "work hard, play hard" lifestyle was turning into "work hard, play never, sleep rarely." Her third and final year was even worse: the longest and most exhausting yet, capped off by a volcanic breakup with the man she'd been dating on and off for a few years. With her on-and-off boy now permanently off and no other prospects in sight, Kiyoko was forced to confront just how skewed her work-life balance had become. Sure, she enjoyed what she did for a living, but she wanted a life outside of it, too.

Her residency over at last, Kiyoko reluctantly began considering a life outside of Rustboro City. She needed a change of scenery and schedule; sure, she was a city girl at heart, but maybe a smaller town would be all right for a while. Maybe she could find somewhere to work, have fun, and try living a balanced life for a change. Maybe somewhere like Pokette Town would fit the bill...

EXTRAS:
:bulletblack: Kiyoko is 7'1" -- very tall by normal standards, but on the short side for a Hariyama. Two of her three younger brothers are now taller than she is, and they don't let her forget it.

:bulletblack: Kiyoko was raised using traditional Japanese name order (family name then given name), and she prefers it, but she's willing to switch it up for anyone who gets confused. (If it's not clear, "Nobusaki" is her family name and "Kiyoko" her given name.) Other than that, though, and a few mannerisms she picked up from her more traditional mother, she's not particularly culturally Japanese; she only speaks a bit of the language, and she eats a lot more sub sandwiches than sushi.

:bulletblack: Physical activity and exercise are very important to Kiyoko. She's fairly adept in traditional Makuhita-line martial arts (theoretically useful for self-defense, mostly for sport and fun), but she also enjoys jogging and ballroom dancing, and she'll try anything physical once. (Or twice, or five times...)

:bulletblack: Kiyoko got EMT-certified during college, and she's kept up with it even though it's a little redundant now. If you need first aid, she's your 'mon.

:bulletblack: Kiyoko doesn't mind sweets, but more often than not her favorite candies are punishingly sour, and she loves the confusingly sour flavor of Iapapa Berries. She's an absolute wuss about spicy food, though -- and embarrassed about that fact.

:bulletblack: Kiyoko still writes to Dr. Baumgarten, the orthopedic surgeon who operated on her broken arm when she was young. He's been something of a professional mentor to her, and it was his encouragement that pushed her oer the edge into looking for life in a smaller town.

:bulletblack: Kiyoko's ability is Guts, and her moves are Detect, Arm Thrust, SmellingSalt, and Wake-Up Slap.
